FID Case Study: GoodMine
GoodMine is dedicated to preventing the waste of the earth's natural resources. Their innovative ‘search and match’ platform aims to simplify reusing, recycling, and repurposing by connecting unwanted goods to the circular ecosystem.
GoodMine’s programme goals were to develop a pilot for their platform, test and refine key areas of their technology, and showcase their services to potential customers and partners.
Results
During the five-month programme, GoodMine achieved numerous impressive results that will contribute to a greener natural environment in east London. These included:
610kg
Total waste diverted from landfill
2561kg
Total amount of carbon dioxide emissions reduced or prevented
2
Total number of new partners or clients in east London
Testbed Activity
Partnering with HereEast on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, GoodMine’s trial assessed their circular model of cataloguing and recycling materials. GoodMine also conducted consumer engagement and research amongst students at Queen Mary University in Tower Hamlets.
Learning and Challenges
The trial allowed GoodMine to improve their ability to gather evidence of impact. GoodMine demonstrated their ability to provide an end-to-end Business to Business service of sustainably recycling materials while adhering to circular economy principles.
They discovered necessary adaptations to their model and were able to obtain a waste license and generate new partnerships. In their consumer engagement, GoodMine challenged assumptions they had made about their customers and improved understanding of local demand.
Outputs
Environment
In their trial, GoodMine diverted 54 items from landfill, successfully preventing the wastage of 610kg of material. In doing so, they successfully prevented the emission of 2561kg CO2.
Business
The trial fundamentally improved their ability to gather evidence, moving from NESTA Standards of Evidence Level 1 to Level 2. GoodMine also progressed from TRL Level 5 to TRL Level 6 while on the programme. They also improved communications activity, bringing in a consultant to improve engagement with user base.
Local Area
GoodMine’s trial activity supported a business based at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and engaged the experiences, assumptions, and needs of students based in Tower Hamlets. They will continue to develop their product based on local engagement with the Circular Economy.
